A 31-year-old man has died after a workplace incident at the PotashCorp Cory mine just west of Saskatoon Monday morning.

The man was working underground when part of the roof or sidewall became dislodged and fell on top of him Monday around 3:30 a.m.

His co-workers administered CPR before he was brought to the surface and taken to hospital, where he died about two hours later.

One other person was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The man's family has been notified. He was married and the father of a two-year-old boy.

PotashCorp spokesperson Bill Johnson said the man had been working with the company for about three years.

"This is a very sad day at PotashCorp," Johnson said, adding that grief counselling is available for staff at the site.

Operations have temporarily ceased at the mine while Occupational Health and Safety investigates. It wasn't known when the mine would reopen.

"The operation of our mine is the least of our concerns right now," Johnson said. "Our concerns are with the family of this individual and our people, and finding out what happened."

In 2005, a worker was killed in a similar incident at the PotashCorp mine in Lanigan.
