Saskatoon police are investigating after a woman was assaulted while walking her dog near Ashworth Holmes Park on Friday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m., police responded to a call of an injured person on the 900 block of Avenue G North.

According to police, a woman was walking her dog when she was approached by an unknown man who tried to take her dog and attacked her with an edged weapon.

The dog bit the man in the leg, and both the victim and her dog were able to run away.

She was treated by ambulance at the scene and was released with minor injuries.

Police describe the suspect as a tall, Indigenous man with short hair, wearing a black hoodie and jeans.
