A Saskatchewan man has been connected to a death near Flin Flon, Manitoba.

On February 23, 39-year old John James Ballantyne suffered serious injuries and was taken to Flin Flon’s General Hospital. He later died as a result of his injuries.

At the time, hospital staff and police were told the Ballantyne had been in a snowmobile accident roughly 30 kilometers west of Creighton. However, an investigation into the death by RCMP and the Manitoba medical examiner determined he was the victim of a homicide.

Ballantyne was from Pelican Narrows.

Another Pelican Narrows man, 24-year-old Thurston Jack Thomas, has been charged with second degree murder.

Thomas is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in La Ronge on March 1.
