A Prince Albert murder case is headed to the Supreme Court of Canada.

John Thomas Shaoulle, from Wollaston Lake, was given an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years after a judge found him guilty of first-degree murder in late 2013.

Shaoulle was charged after the naked and partially burned body of Margaret Sewap was discovered behind a Prince Albert hardware store in April 2011.

His defence lawyer is appealing the ruling, arguing the verdict was unreasonable and was not supported by the evidence.

Saskatchewan’s Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal, but one dissenting judge said a properly instructed jury could not have concluded beyond a reasonable doubt that Shaoulle was the killer.

Canada’s Supreme Court will hear the case Friday.
