The start line has changed for the Canadian Challenge Sled Dog race due to poor conditions.

The race will now start at Elk Ridge Resort at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southern trails are turning to mud and gravel, and forecasted snow hasn’t arrived yet.

Organizers say other changes are being considered, but for now the race will continue. Right now, the 12-dog race is shortened to 270 miles and the eight-dog race is shortened to 135 miles.

Mushers are being offered a refund on entrance fees, but organizers hope all 20 teams will stay in the race.

Last year’s race was cancelled due to poor conditions.
