A Saskatoon police officer managed to use his skills as a former rancher to collar a four-legged vagabond that had wandered several kilometres from home.
Officers got word Sunday morning about a horse named Archie that was running loose and posing a potential danger to traffic in the area of Boychuk Drive and Highway 16.
Const. Derek Chesney appealed to Archie's stomach by filling a bucket with stones and rattling it to mimic the sound of oats to lure the horse.
Then, using a collar fashioned from a length of police tow rope, Chesney reined Archie in and helped load the 15-year-old gelding on a trailer for return to its owner in Clavet.
Chesney suggests his colleagues take some lariat training in case they need it in the future.
