An early morning standoff ended peacefully Thursday with Saskatoon police taking one man into custody.

Police said in a news release that a man in a vehicle located in the area of 22nd Street West and Witney Avenue was threatening self-harm with a firearm.

Officers located the vehicle at approximately 5:15 a.m. and surrounded the scene. The police service’s Bearcat emergency response vehicle was called in along with a negotiator.

The man surrendered to police at 5:50 a.m. and was taken into custody.

Traffic was restricted in the area and in both directions along 22nd Street during the incident but most of those restrictions have since been lifted.
