Freezing rain is expected to sweep across Saskatchewan’s southern half Tuesday evening.

Environment Canada has issued freezing rains warnings for several areas in central and southeastern Saskatchewan.

The weather agency says a low-pressure system developing over northern Alberta is expected to push a warm front across western Saskatchewan. Patchy freezing rain is possible Tuesday afternoon and into the early evening over the Meadow Lake and Battleford areas.

A more significant band of freezing rain is expected to spread into the west-central portion of the province in the evening. As the precipitation moves into colder air, an area of freezing rain is expected to push across the Saskatoon and Prince Albert areas by the late evening, and into southeastern Saskatchewan after midnight.

The agency says those in the warning area could see one to three hours of freezing rain, with a possible one to three millimetres of icing before temperatures rise above the freezing mark Tuesday night.

There is also a risk of some freezing rain in Regina overnight, but the main threat is expected north and east of the city, Environment Canada said.

The freezing rain could make roads slippery, and motorists are being advised to adjust their driving accordingly.
