City officials guess two beavers found dead in a storm sewer were unable to escape because of recent rain.
Photos of the beavers caught against the grate of a City of Saskatoon storm sewer — located near Rotary Park — were posted to Facebook on Sunday and have since been shared more than 800 times.
The pictures show the beavers pushed against the grate and caught in heavy debris.
A spokesperson for the city said crews were in the process of inspecting storm sewers but had yet to reach the drain near the Senator Sid Buckwold Bridge.
The beavers likely squeezed through the storm sewer’s grate and were unable to escape because of recent rain, the spokesperson said.
City crews cleared the storm sewer Tuesday morning.
