Long-time news anchor Rob MacDonald is saying goodbye to the broadcast industry after nearly 41 years with CTV Saskatoon.

MacDonald's broadcasting career began in 1973 working for CHAB Radio in Moose Jaw, his hometown. In 1976 he took a job in television in Saskatoon for CFQC News, and months later he took over the station’s late-night anchor job.

He became CFQC’s six o'clock news anchor in 1986, and has sat in that chair ever since.

"I feel so honoured that the people of Saskatoon and Saskatchewan have allowed me into their homes every night for more than 40 years," says MacDonald.

In that time, he has visited many communities across Saskatchewan hosting numerous ‘Hometown Tour’ segments. He's produced many features like ‘Saskatoon Stories’ and ‘Flashback.’

MacDonald holds a strong interest in politics, and has covered countless elections.

"I have been living my dream job for more than 40 years” says MacDonald. “There hasn’t been a day I haven’t looked forward to going to work. It’s a place I have learned something every day."

After four decades of being involved in local broadcasting, MacDonald retires with optimism. "I hope I have left a positive mark on local news in Saskatoon. I also hope I have left a positive mark on Saskatoon itself, a city I am so proud to call home."

MacDonald adds he hopes to see more of this world and is planning to travel. His final day on the air will be Jan. 20.
