A high level of carbon monoxide forced the evacuation of a Saskatoon hockey arena Tuesday night.

Saskatoon firefighters were called just after 7 p.m. after a SaskEnergy service technician reported a high carbon monoxide reading at Jemini, an arena just south of the city.

A young girl who reportedly fainted at the scene and then regained consciousness was taken to hospital by a parent before firefighters arrived. Approximately 150 people were evacuated from the building.

Fire crews found varying levels of carbon monoxide in the building and checked employees for exposure to the gas. No one required medical treatment.

The source of the carbon monoxide was gas-powered lifts that were being used during construction in one of the rinks. The facility was closed for the evening as a safety precaution.
