Hundreds of volunteers laced up their sneakers for the 31st annual Terry Fox Run Sunday morning in Saskatoon.

The run is a major fundraiser for the Terry Fox Foundation, which helps fund cancer research across the country.

70-year-old Dave Balon is a cancer survivor, and has participated in the run for twenty-eight straight years.

"It gives me some time to reflect on why I'm doing the run. It makes me feel fortunate to be able the do the run, and just reflect on people we have lost to cancer," Balon explained.

This year's Marathon of Hope was dedicated to Terry's mother, Betty, who passed away in June.

Betty Fox is credited with carrying on her son's legacy, and helping to raise millions of dollars for the Terry Fox Foundation. The foundation has raised more than $550 million for cancer research since 1981.
