Warman residents are being told to boil their water.

The city was placed under a precautionary drinking water advisory Tuesday, starting at 2 p.m.

Repair of a water main as well as the depressurization of a supply pipeline system prompted the advisory, a letter from the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency read. The safety of the city’s drinking water supply cannot be guaranteed during the repairs.

Residents are told to boil all drinking water as well as water used for cooking, brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, washing dishes and making ice cubes — all activities where water may be ingested. Public drinking fountains should also not be used.

“Adults, adolescents and older children may shower, bathe or wash using tap water but should avoid swallowing the water,” a letter posted to residents’ homes read.

The city stressed the advisory is precautionary.

“There’s nothing for anybody to worry about,” a spokesperson said. “It’s all preventative.”

The Water Security Agency said the advisory cannot be lifted until the system — the SaskWater Saskatoon North Treated supply pipeline distribution system — is re-pressurized, the water main has been disinfected and flushed, and several clean water samples have been taken. No timeline was given.
