A first-degree murder trial for a woman accused of killing her five-year-old son has been pushed back at least a day.

Kellie Johnson appeared in Saskatoon’s Court of Queen’s Bench Monday for what was set to be day one of the five-day trial, but the trial was adjourned to Tuesday.

A judge did not go into detail about the delay, but described the motion to adjourn as sensitive.

Johnson is accused of killing her son Jonathan Vetter in January 2014. She was charged after the boy was found dead Jan. 4 in a home on the 400 block of Avenue R South.

She underwent psychiatric and psychological assessments at Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford shortly after Vetter died.

Neither the Crown nor her lawyer requested a preliminary hearing, so the case was scheduled to go directly to trial.
