SaskEnergy crews have finished repairing a ruptured natural gas line in Saskatoon.

The line, located outside a home on the 400 block of 30th Street West, ruptured shortly after 10 a.m. Monday after a private contractor drilled into the 10-inch pipeline.

Nine nearby homes were evacuated, and notices were issued to residents within a one-block radius.

All residents were allowed to return to their homes Monday evening, and the line was shut off Monday night. Crews installed a special shutoff valve to isolate the affected gas line before shutting off the gas.

Four homes lost service for about one to two hours, according to a SaskEnergy spokesperson.

No homes lost service Tuesday, and crews finished repairing the line by late in the afternoon.

Repair costs are estimated to be in the tens of thousands of dollars, the spokesperson said.

SaskEnergy will work to recoup those costs from the contractor that damaged the pipeline, and the city says the damage costs will be the responsibility of the contractor.
