UPDATE: Human remains found south of Saskatoon, in the Swanson area, on Nov. 20, 2016, have been identified as Barry Heimbecker.
-- Below is an earlier version of this story:
One of two missing men who police say are tied to Saskatoon gang activity has been found.
Saskatoon police said in a media release early Tuesday morning Neilson Kakum has been located. The 21-year-old was last seen March 20 alongside 32-year-old Barry Heimbecker.
Heimbecker is still missing, according to police.
Investigators are asking landowners in the Swanson and Delisle areas to check their farmland or outbuildings for anything suspicious. Both men have been involved in gang activity and police are not ruling out foul play in the investigation.
The pair was last seen at a home in Saskatoon’s Fairhaven neighbourhood at about 7 a.m. March 20, police said in a media release. Investigators believe they were in a silver Chrysler 300 sedan, which has since been found about 18 kilometres south of Delisle, just off Highway 45.
A girlfriend of one of the men told police she was in contact with the two via cellphone at about 9:30 a.m. March 20. The men were walking in a field and heading north toward Highway 7, near Vanscoy. They were trying to get a ride, she said.
Friends and family are concerned for Heimbecker’s well-being and safety. Being out of contact with friends and family is out of character for him, according to police.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
