Construction of the new Saskatchewan Hospital is progressing on time and on budget, according to the Prairie North Health Region.

The mental-health facility being built near North Battleford is 38 per cent complete, as of the end of November. Most of the exterior walls are up and crews will spend the winter enclosing the structure and making it weathertight, the health region says.

The new hospital will have 188 beds, plus a 96-room secure unit for offenders with mental-health issues.

Construction, which began in 2015, is expected to be complete in 2018.
