The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party has nominated Vicki Mowat as its candidate in the upcoming Saskatoon Fairview by-election.
About 140 eligible NDP members gathered at the Confederation Inn to vote Monday night with more than 50 per cent of the vote in favour of Mowat according to the party.
Mowat, who works as the Executive Assistant to the Dean of Aboriginal Affairs at the University of Saskatchewan, was the NDP candidate for the constituency in 2016. She lost by a slim margin to former Sask Party MLA Jennifer Campeau, who left the seat vacant last month.
“The Sask. Party has made heartless cuts to the services people rely on in this province and people are fed up” said Mowat. “This by-election is an opportunity for the people of this constituency to send a clear message that the Sask. Party needs to stop making Saskatchewan people pay the price for their mismanagement, scandal and waste.”
Mowat defeated Chris Sicotte and Keith Jorgenson to win the candidacy.
