More help is on the way from Blackstrap and Saskatoon to assist with firefighting efforts in La Ronge. The resort community in Blackstrap is the latest to contribute resources to the wildfire efforts.
Saskatoon has sent eight additional firefighters. They will rotate shifts with the seven who are currently on the scene.
Additional staff from Warman have been sent there to replace the four who went to La Ronge on Saturday.
Firefighters from across central Saskatchewan have arrived in La Ronge to assist with controlling wildfires. Muskoday First Nation, Warman, Prince Albert, Nipawin, the RM of Buckland, and Saskatoon have sent personnel and equipment to assist in the efforts to put out the flames.
The La Ronge Fire Department is also on the scene.
Now there are 540 active firefighters in northern Saskatchewan.
Over 35 communities are on standby to offer firefighting services.
The province says there is a real threat to the town of La Ronge. On July 4th more than 7,000 people evacuated La Ronge, Lac La Ronge Indian Band and Air Ronge due to approaching flames and thick smoke.
Currently, three are 113 active fires in Saskatchewan. In the last 24 hours seven fires have been declared out and 10 new fires have been reported.
As of July 4th there have been 569 fires this season. In 2014 there were 193 fires.
The Ministry of Environment recommends that people avoid non-essential travel to the areas of La Ronge, La Loche and Pinehouse. Travel to the area is restricted while the smoke and wildfire remains.
