A herd of bison running wild in east-central Saskatchewan is prompting warnings from RCMP.

Mounties are asking motorists in the Tisdale area to watch out for the herd, estimated to be as large as 100 bison, as officials with the Rural Municipality of Barrier Valley work out a plan to corral the animals.

The herd has been seen crossing portions of Highway 35 — about 25 to 30 kilometres south of Tisdale — and have also been spotted on grid roads in the area, according to a media release from RCMP.

“The RM of Barrier Valley is asking that the public refrain from chasing or scaring the animals as this will make capturing and corralling them much more difficult,” the media release stated.

Drivers should take extra precaution if travelling in the Tisdale and Barrier Valley RM areas. Anyone who encounters the herd should call the RM office at 306-323-2101.
