A large grass fire launched heavy plumes of smoke into the air Thursday night.

Fire crews were dispatched just before 8 p.m. to a fire sparked by someone doing yard maintenance on an acreage located on Central Avenue North near city limits.

The flames spread through difficult terrain and sparked a fire on a second acreage, Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services said in a news release.

The blaze was brought under control in an hour and property damage was minimal.
