A 73-year-old woman is in hospital with serious injuries after Saskatoon firefighters rescued her from a burning house Thursday night.

Fire crews were called at approximately 9:15 p.m. and arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the rear of a house in the 900 block of Eighth Street near Clarence Avenue.

During an initial sweep of the house firefighters found one person. They carried her from the home to an ambulance where she was taken to hospital in critical condition.

A fire investigator has determined that cooking was the cause of the fire. Damage is estimated at $200,000.
