About 80 people turned out Thursday evening for a candlelight vigil in North Battleford, Sask. to remember a young man whose shooting death escalated racial tension in the province.

Colten Boushie of the Red Pheasant First Nation died August 10th after the vehicle he was in drove onto a farm near Biggar west of Saskatoon.

The vigil was marked by traditional ceremonies and prayers for the 22-year-old man.

Kim Jonathan, vice-chief of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations, asked those gathered to support and love the Boushie family.

Gerald Stanley has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and is free on bail as he awaits his next court appearance on September 13th.
