Charges have been laid in relation to last week’s shooting near Clavet.
Three people from Imperial, Sask., have been charged with several offenses, and another male who was arrested on Highway 16 was released from custody with no charges.
Derek Marlon Cote, 35, was charged with assault of a peace officer with a weapon, possession of stolen fire arms, possession of firearms while prohibited, and possession of stolen property. He was remanded in custody and will appear in court once discharged from the hospital.
Erin Tootootis, 33, and Karen Kilmer 57, were both charged with possession of property obtained by an offense. Both will appear in Saskatoon Provincial court on June 27.
The three were arrested hours after the Watrous RCMP received reports of several break and enters in the area. RCMP conducted a vehicle stop that led to an RCMP officer firing their firearm. Highway 16 was closed for several hours to facilitate an investigation into the shooting.
So far, an RCMP investigation has recovered nine stolen guns, as well as personal and household items, including jewelry and electronics from the initial vehicle stop. RCMP are investigating several other break and enter offenses in conjunction with the original offenses reported last week.
RCMP and the Regina Police Service are still investigating the circumstances that led to an RCMP discharging their firearm. The Regina Police Service is investigating the use of force by the RCMP, and they will submit their results to the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney General.
