The Bell of Batoche is coming back to Saskatchewan.
Friday morning in Winnipeg it was announced the bell will be presented back to the historic site during a mass ceremony in July.
The bell hasn’t been seen by the public in years. In 1885 it was taken by federal soldiers following the Battle of Batoche, and for many years it was kept in a legion in Millbrook, Ontario. However, it was stolen in 1991 and hasn’t been seen since.
For many Metis, the bell is an important symbol. The bell will be presented to the Bishop of Prince Albert on Saturday, July 20 during back to Batoche days.
