An accused car thief went from one cage to another early Wednesday morning. Police say they found a man hiding in a dog cage after crashing a stolen truck into a Sutherland residence.

A truck crashed through the wall of a house in the neighbourhood around 3:00 a.m. Two people in the vehicle fled the scene.

Neighbours say the one suspect was found in a dog kennel in a backyard a few blocks from the crash site. The man was tracked to his hiding spot with help from the canine unit.

Alyson Edwards, with the Saskatoon Police Service, says the second suspect was later caught on the 100 block of Cruise Street.  “Now we have a 24-year-old female and 37-year-old male who are facing numerous charges including dangerous driving and possession of stolen property."

Police say the crashed truck was stolen. It was spotted by an officer on Highway #5, but sped away erratically when the officer tried to stop it.

“Luckily the residents inside were not hurt but there was extensive damage to the residence,” says Edwards.

The truck was a Ford F250.  Police say lately a number of these trucks have been stolen, and they're investigating whether there is any connection between this theft and the others.
