A growing demand for power is fuelling a $500-million expansion to SaskPower’s Queen Elizabeth power plant in Saskatoon.

Three new, natural gas-fired turbines are being added to the facility.

SaskPower says the new turbines are 10 to 15 per cent more efficient than existing turbines and will produce electricity to service more than 200,000 homes in the city.

The expansion project is expected to be complete by July 2015.
