Andre Lalonde wants to ensure the Traffic Bridge’s legacy lives on.

The Saskatoon Lego fan, who started building a replica of the bridge a few years ago, said he has no plans to take his bridge apart.

“I started the bridge about three years ago when the first initial span came down in 2012, and that’s kind of when the idea first clicked for me to try and commemorate the original bridge in some shape,” he said. “Usually my best medium happens to be Lego.”

Lalonde’s replica, which was partially funded by the Saskatoon Heritage Society, is constructed with 16,000 Lego pieces and is about eight metres long. He said he hopes to take the model around the city to be displayed.

Two sections of Saskatoon’s 108-year-old Traffic Bridge were demolished Sunday morning. A new bridge is set to be completed by 2018.
