A 24-year-old man is facing murder and aggravated assault charges after RCMP were called to two homes on the Red Earth First Nation over the weekend.

Mounties responded to the first home early Saturday morning, just after midnight. A man had been stabbed, police said in a media release.

He was taken to hospital in Nipawin for treatment and was eventually released.

The second call came in as police were responding to the first complaint, according to RCMP. A 29-year-old man, Ramsey Whitehead, was unresponsive in the second home when officers arrived.

Paramedics and police attempted to revive Whitehead, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A suspect from the First Nation was arrested near the homes, police said. He’s charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault, and is set to appear Tuesday morning in Melfort Provincial Court.

Results of an autopsy, scheduled for Monday morning in Saskatoon, have yet to be released.
