The Prince Albert Raiders have pulled their newest team member – their new mascot, the Boston Raider – after a flurry of controversy.

The Boston Raider was unveiled just last week. It was a throwback to the team’s original mascot from the 1980’s, but many felt the bearded mascot with Arabian head ware was offensive to people from the Middle East.

The change was announced at Friday night’s game. Team officials said there will not be a mascot at home games until further notice.

A statement on the Raiders website said the organization apologizes if anyone was offended by the character.
