The Transportation Safety Board is investigating after a plane without any occupants crashed in a field near Nipawin, Sask. Thursday evening.

RCMP said the pilot was attempting to prop start the two-seater plane — meaning the pilot was outside the aircraft — but, as the engine started, the plane gained speed and became airborne. The aircraft reached 30 feet before crashing into the field at the Nipawin airport.

The pilot was not injured, Mounties said. No one was aboard the plane.

The Transportation Safety Board was notified and will be investigating, according to RCMP.
