A black and white Grey Cup will sit forever in CTV Saskatoon’s history books.

The 1954 CFL championship — played in Toronto between the Edmonton Eskimos and Montreal Alouettes — was the first television program ever broadcasted on our station, then known as CFQC-TV.

The television station, which was rebranded as CTV Saskatoon in 2001, hit the air for the first time 60 years ago.

The Dec. 5, 1954 debut was the first time television was brought to north-central Saskatchewan and marked one of many milestones for the station.

We were the first to deliver newscasts to the prairies seven days a week. We began broadcasting in full colour in 1971, and this summer we converted to high definition.

We celebrated the 60-year milestone Friday by welcoming back Greg Barnsley, the station's first weatherperson, and by dedicating our studio to his many years on the air. We renamed the studio "The Greg Barnsley Television Studio.”

We hope we can continue to bring Saskatoon and northern Saskatchewan’s most important stories to our viewers and readers for many more decades.

Thanks for tuning in to 60 years of CFQC!
