Yesterday a satirical article made waves on social media in #YXE.
The Lapine, an Onion-esque website with plenty of fake Canadian content, posted an article titled “Saskatoon bans ‘sh*tty little yappy’ dogs” and released a flurry of activity on Twitter and Facebook.
The article has fake quotes from Mayor Don Atchison and the Saskatchewan Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. “Saskatooners are not New Yorkers. We have big dogs,” the article quotes the mayor.
The fake ban includes any dog with “teacup” or “miniature” in its name, as well as a list of specific breeds. Anyone with a bichon frise, shih tsu, chihuahua, or pug would have to give up their pooches.
According to the writer, other cities have similar “weeny dog ban” bylaws, including Victoria, Hamilton, and Dallas.
