Blood found on the ice where a person was seen falling into the river Feb. 2 is that of missing Gregory “Myles” MacIntosh, police confirmed Friday.

MacIntosh, originally from Nova Scotia, was reported missing by his fiancée around 4 a.m. Feb. 2. He was celebrating his bachelor party that night and was last seen by his friends around midnight before he was kicked out of Outlaws Country Rock bar.

He then boarded a pub crawl bus travelling to an eastside bar. Police were called to an altercation between two men on the bus minutes later at the intersection of Lorne Avenue and 8th Street East. Several witnesses said one of the men involved in the altercation was MacInotsh, but police were unable to find him when they arrived on scene.

"We had a physical altercation that happened between two men and we believe Mr. MacIntosh was one of those men. The other man is now facing charges of aggravated assault in connection with that," said Alyson Edwards, a spokesperson for the Saskatoon police.

About a half hour after MacIntosh was last seen, rescue crews were called after two witnesses reported seeing a person walking on the river’s ice near Rotary Park before disappearing into the water just east of the Sid Buckwold Bridge.

Rescuers were unable to find a person or body in their search of the river, but blood was found on the ice near the river’s edge.

DNA tests confirmed this week the blood matched that of MacIntosh.

"We sent that evidence away for testing, along with blood samples taken from Mr. MacIntosh's family, and we have concluded now that it is likely Mr. MacIntosh who did go into the water," said Edwards.

Scott Russell Denny, 33, has been charged with aggravated assault in relation to the incident. Police said he was one of the men involved in the altercation on the bus, based on witness testimony.

Denny appeared in Saskatoon provincial court at 9:30 a.m. Friday and remains in police custody. His next appearance is scheduled for March 3.

MacIntosh and his fiancée were scheduled to be married Feb. 15.

Emergency divers will not be able to enter the water to search for MacIntosh’s body until spring.

A search team from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, which MacIntosh’s family requested assist with the search, scoured the river two weeks ago using sonar imaging but were unable to locate MacIntosh.
