A third fire this week in Saskatoon was caused by careless smoking.

Fire crews arrived at 339 Emerald Court just before 10:00 p.m. and quickly put out a deck fire at the back of the house. The fire didn’t spread beyond the deck, and no one was home at the time of the fire.

Officials said the damage was estimated at $2,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was caused by “careless disposal of smoking materials”.

This is the third fire in a week in Saskatoon to be caused by improperly disposed of cigarettes or cigars. Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services said in a release that they’re strongly urging people to be careful when getting rid of smoking materials. They said organic materials, like wood, are extremely dry this time of year, making fires a hazard.
