A second-degree murder charge has been laid against a youth after the death of a 19-year-old man in Sandy Bay, Sask.

RCMP say the boy was arrested Tuesday in connection with the death of Jared Phillip Merasty. Merasty died after he was taken to Sandy Bay Health Centre following a report Monday morning, at about 10:30 a.m., of an unresponsive man in the northeastern Saskatchewan community.

The boy cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Police did not clarify his age.

He is scheduled to appear in Pelican Narrows Provincial Court on Thursday.

RCMP major crimes officers and the identification unit are still investigating.
