A tip to Saskatoon police has led to the arrest of a woman wanted in both that city and in Edmonton on fraud charges.

Melissa Weatherbee, who is 31, was taken into custody Thursday morning.

Investigators in Saskatoon say alleged victims were approached between last November and this February by a person who needed money for an emergency.

They were convinced to deposit cheques into their bank accounts before the money was withdrawn, but the cheques were later found to be no good.

Police say a similar hard-luck scam was allegedly pulled in Edmonton last year.

Weatherbee is facing at least 12 charges in the Alberta capital alone.
