A woman charged in an unprovoked assault that led to the death of a senior will not face murder charges.

Debbie Okemahwasin, 38, will instead face a charge of aggravated assault.

Okemahwasin was charged after an incident on Sept. 16 in which an 83-year-old woman was assaulted on the sidewalk outside of the Saskatoon police station. Okemahwasin ran into the station shouting that she had just assaulted someone.

The senior injured in the incident died one month later.

Okemahwasin will remain in jail until her next court appearance on Jan. 9.
