SASKATOON -- A 70-year-old woman is dead after being hit by a recycling truck.

The crash happened Wednesday morning in a condominium building parking lot in the 200 block of Cree Place, according to Saskatoon Police Service (SPS).

A woman CTV News spoke with who lives in the building said when she drove up at around 8 a.m., she saw emergency personnel performing CPR on the woman.

"It's a horrific accident, just terrible," said a woman who asked not to be identified. "It was just such a surprise coming home to see this."

"When we pulled up they were doing CPR, police everywhere, the truck is still in the parking lot and I didn't really know what was going on until they started taping off everything," she said.

"The poor family, they have to be told … it's just a horrific accident."

The City of Saskatoon says the truck involved belonged to a private contractor working on behalf of a non-city organization.

In an emailed statement to CTV News,  the contractor operating the truck Emterra Environmental said an employee reported the crash to police and the company is fully cooperating with the police investigation.

The company said it is initiating employee support for the driver involved.

SPS collision analysts are investigating the incident.
