The first confirmed human case of West Nile Virus in Saskatchewan this year has been reported in the Region Qu’Appelle Health Region.

The infection was detected during Canadian Blood Services testing of a blood donation. The individual who contracted the infection displayed no symptoms. The government says in a news release “ recent hot, humid conditions created the ideal conditions for the development of Culex tarsalis mosquitoes, the carrier of West Nile Virus.”

Traps in southern Saskatchewan show Culex tarsalis mosquito numbers up slightly.
