A major water main break at Eighth Street and Munroe Avenue in Saskatoon kept city workers and emergency crews occupied for most of the day on Sunday.

The break, which caused traffic delays, flooded the basement of a nearby home.

Jeff Clark woke up to a geyser in the house he lives in, as water gushed in his basement window.

As the water rose inside the home, the basement tenants were trapped after the door swung closed.

According to Clark,  there was more than three feet of water in the basement within three to five minutes.

City crews worked to shut off the water, and fire fighters helped evacuate the home.

Clark and his wife are currently staying at a hotel.

Traffic was shut down on Eighth Street near the break for five hours while crews worked to repair the break.
