A trip to the vet is proving to be especially costly for a Saskatchewan man after his dogs had a run in with a porcupine.

Three of Dennis Mazur’s dogs got into a tussle with a porcupine near his home in Craven last month.

He travelled to Saskatoon to get his animals the care they required, but the veterinary bills now exceed $11,000.

One dog had surgery to remove quills that had pierced her heart and lungs, and another dog still has a quill lodged in his spine.

Mazur had to take time off work in order to care for his dogs.

A GoFundMe page set up by Mazur’s friend has since raised more than $12,000 to help cover the vet costs.
