Dog uninjured after getting trapped outside doors of moving SkyTrain, transit police say

A harrowing incident unfolded for a dog and its owner on the Expo Line SkyTrain in East Vancouver Wednesday afternoon.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police told CTV News a brief “system hold” was put in place on the route to allow SkyTrain staff to help with a dog that was stuck in the doors of a train.

Crews assisted the dog and its owner at 29th Avenue Station, but the pair boarded the train at Nanaimo Station, according to MVTP spokesperson Const. Amanda Steed.

Asked for clarification, Steed explained that the small dog was “trapped on the outside of the doors by its leash as the train travelled between stations.”

“Undoubtedly a terrifying ordeal for any pet owner,” Steed said. “Thankfully, the dog was not injured.”The MVTP spokesperson described the incident as “an important reminder” of TransLink’s pet policy, which states that non-service dogs should be kept in a “fully enclosed” carrier.
