Locked out Saskatoon bus drivers received a morale boost of sorts this week.
The University of Saskatchewan’s faculty association presented the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 615, which represents the city’s transit workers, with a $10,000 cheque.
The cheque was the association’s way of returning support the faculty received from city bus drivers during a faculty strike.
“The USFA went on strike only one time in our history, and we remember that members of the transit union refused to drive their buses across our picket line,” association chair Doug Chivers told transit workers picketing at City Hall when he presented the cheque.
“This is our way to return that support.”
Bus drivers have been locked out by the city since Sept. 20. Wednesday marked the first day transit pass holders could receive refunds for the month of September as well as the third day of consecutive talks between the union and the city.
