Two girls, 16 and 17 years old, are in custody after evading police on Sunday morning.

Officers found a stolen SUV near Avenue L and 20th Street and tried to stop it around 5:25 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle didn’t stop and an evade police incident was initiated, police said in a media release. Officers were able to stop the vehicle in the 200 block of Avenue O South shortly after and the two girls were taken into custody without further incident.

There was no property damage or injuries.

The driver of the SUV is facing multiple charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and evading police. The passenger is facing charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Both girls will appear before a Justice of the Peace on Sunday afternoon.
