Two people are dead after a collision northeast of Saskatoon Friday morning.

The collision occured between a southbound car and a northbound van. The 67-year-old man and 55-year-old woman traveling in the car died at the scene. The driver of the van was taken to hospital by EMS.

At the time, the weather was foggy and sections of the highway were slippery. Highway 41 was shut down in both directions for several hours as RCMP investigated. An RCMP traffic analyist is assisting with the on-going investigation.

The fatal crash follows a series of collisions on highways near Saskatoon Thursday night and into Friday morning. On Thursday night one person had to be airlifted by STARS ambulance services to hospital after a head on collision on Highway 7 west of Saskatoon. Three others were taken to hospital in stable conditions and RCMP are still investigating the cause of the accident.

Drivers in city limits also suffered a series of collisions, including one around 9:00 p.m. on Circle Drive that left one car in pieces. Saskatoon Police haven’t confirmed icy roads were to blame.
