Three people are in custody after evading police early Saturday morning.

At 3:30 a.m., a patrol car attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had been seen driving up and down alleys in the Meadow Green neighbourhood.

When officers activated their patrol unit roof lights, the vehicle sped away. The patrol unit pursued the vehicle for a few seconds, before stopping the pursuit for safety reasons.

The Air Support Unit observed the suspect vehicle as it traveled through the west side of the city, before stopping in an alley in the 1300 block of Avenue E North. Ground units converged on the area and three suspects were taken into custody. During the arrest, officers also found a loaded, sawed-off .22 rifle and a small amount of methamphetamine. No one was injured in the incident.

Police continue to investigate. The three suspects include a 19-year-old woman, a 20-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man all from Saskatoon. All three will face charges related to evading police, carrying illegal firearms and drugs, as well as unrelated arrest warrants. The suspects will be held in custody and brought before a Justice of the Peace later on Saturday.
