James and Christine Gorman go all out each Halloween to decorate their yard and raise money for charity. But on Friday night, the Gormans say their collection box was broken into, and their money was stolen.
“I was a little choked,” said James Gorman, “But what can you do?”
Gorman estimates thieves stole a few hundred dollars. The money was supposed to go toward Red Cross’ Anti-bullying program in Saskatoon.
Halloween is a special time for the Gormans. They’ve been setting up displays during the week leading up to Halloween for ten years. Depending on the year, and the weather, the Gormans estimate they’ve raised between $300 and $2000 for charity.
“Bullying kills. It really does. So it’s really an important charity,” said Christine Gorman, “It’s heartbreaking. And then you get mad. Because really, who steals from the charity?”
The Gormans said they’ll continue to collect money for the Red Cross again Saturday outside their home on Avenue X. They hope whoever stole the money either brings it back, or pays it forward.
