A thief attempted to steal the donation box at the Mendel Art Gallery Saturday morning.
A witness says she saw a man canvassing the scene. He wheeled the donation box out the front door but didn't get far. Police found it abandoned just around the corner of the gallery.
A man matching the description of the thief was found hiding under the University Bridge and taken into custody. The donation box was returned to the gallery.
