A 27-year-old man is in police custody after an armed robbery early Thursday.

Saskatoon police were called just after 2 a.m. when a man reportedly in posession of a handgun fled on foot after robbing a business in the 3300 block of Fairlight Drive just after 2 a.m., police said in a news release.

Officers responding to the call spotted a man resembling the description of the suspect and detained the man.

A subsequent track by a canine unit starting at the scene of the robbery led to the location where the suspect was apprehended, police said. The one-kilometre-long track also resulted in the discovery of several items of evidence, including a replica firearm.

The man faces charges of armed robbery, wearing a disguise and other weapons-related offenses.
